Max Payne 3 Review for Xbox 360

Max Payne 3 game

Max Payne 3 is the third game in the Max Payne series (I think the 3 gave that one away). This is a third person shooter developed by Rockstar Game Studios. This gaming series is well known for it's iconic bullet time gameplay and the third installment carries on in that vein.

The game is released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and is available in a standard edition or a special edition.

Max Payne is back nearly 10 years since the last release of Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne in 2003. Max, who is now older and looks like he has put on a few pounds, is working as a bodyguard in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for a wealthy family. It is not long before things obviously take a turn for the worst and then the killing spree starts.

Max Payne 3 Review

This is a violent game and the body count soon racks up. You get some great environments for shoot outs including a Police Station, which reminds you of a similar scene in the first Terminator film. Talking of films this game is very cinematic. From the story to the graceful bullet time, this game does engage and deliver on the entertainment.

As a shooter, the game definitely delivers but there is not much new on offer from the previous games. It does feel like a Max Payne game but there is not a lot new, game play wise, and can become a little repetitive. Apart from a bullet cam there does not appear to be any new moves or upgrades that you can get.

The game does manage though to utilise bullet time in Multiplayer. The basic premise is to have anyone in the line of your sight and anybody in your enemies sight line to be thrown into the slow motion mode, when it is engaged. Anyone else outside this will be left unaffected. This does work quite well and the best of the on-line modes is the Gang Wars one.

Max Payne 3 Review Conclusion

There is no denying the fun that can be had from playing this game, the way you can majestically go about your slow motion killings, watching your bullets fly through the air and then see them pass through your enemies, can give you great satisfaction. There may not be anything too original here but what Max Payne 3 does offer is a sublime shooting game.
