The latest game, in the Ghost Recon series, still keeps true to its origins of stealth combat and tactics. Moving on from Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter; this fast paced but tactical game has a lot to offer.
Future Soldier is available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. The price for these varies so check the video games deals page.
In the game you take control of Sergeant Kozak and his highly trained 3 man elite team. There are 14 missions set in various locations around the world and you can play them as a single player or a co-op mode with friends.
This is a thinking man's Call of Duty and has to be played differently than the current crop of running and shooting games available. In this game you have to think about your targets and what consequences it will have, if you want to survive. Sometimes it may be better not to kill and use stealth to get to your main objective.
To aid you in your battle you get a lot of cool gadgets. These include advanced weaponry, drones, airstrikes and a mechanised robot called the Warhound. There is also your optical camouflage suit to help you sneak about. The suit keeps you virtually invisible when you are in the crouch position and this is where you truly become a Ghost.
There is of course Multiplayer with four game modes on offer. The stand out multiplayer game is Decoy. This is where there are three targets and only one of the three is the real target. Nobody knows which the real target is and which the decoy target is. This can lead to fun and exciting games.
There is also Kinect compatibility for the Xbox 360 version. You can get to use the Kinect Sensor with the Gunsmith mode. This is where you get to customize weapons, change attachments and components. This mode gives you a chance to put your own stamp on a weapon of your choice. You can then test the weapon in the firing range. This is a nice addition but is nothing you can not already do with a controller.
The visuals can sometimes be a real treat but other times can look like there is not enough detail and just looks like it's lacking a little polish. The plot and dialogue are not always the best and some purists might say the game has gone more towards the big shooters of today, instead of being more like a soldier simulator.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier offers a good balance of thought and gunplay. It offers tense battles and stealthy action at a good pace, and is a nice change from the majority of the modern day shooters.
